There are many possible reasons to turn your side hustle into your own business. You don't like your job, you want more flexibility in your job, you have more income potential. Whatever that reason is, some people find it hard to make the leap to full-time business owner. Don't wake up one day, five years from now, and realize that your side hustle is still just a side hustle. Here are five things you need to do to gain momentum so you can quit your J-O-B:
- Get Into the Right Mindset- This can be a hard thing for many people. You need to believe that you can make this transition. Believe that people need your product or service. Be fearless when it comes to marketing yourself.
- Surround Yourself With Like-Minded People- You need to have supportive people around you who will be helpful through thick and thin. There's a saying that you are the average of the ten people who you spend the most time with. If you wouldn't want to trade places with those closest to you, it's time to upgrade your peer group. Join a mastermind group or hang out with other business owners.
- Treat It As A Business- A side hustle will remain as such if you don't give it priority in your life. After family and your day job, you need to work on your business before you join in leisure activities. Work on advertising, create a business plan, set up accounting practices and get insurance. It may not be exciting, but it's an essential part of going full-time.
- Create Raving Fans- Go the extra mile with your existing clients to ensure they are with you for the long haul, and so you can get referrals. Whatever your business is, there's something you can do to give them a bit more. Offer to trim the hedges for your lawn-mowing clients. Add an extra five minutes to the clock for your massage clients. Give an extra item to your bake shop customers. Create a referral program to encourage clients to let others know about you.
- Take the Leap- The last step is to finally take the leap from your day job to your new business. Once you've replaced about 70% of your income through your new business, it's time to do this. The logic behind it is that once you dedicate all your work time to this, you can ramp things up and get to the 100% threshold. Hopefully you'll even exceed it!
Make this the year that you make the leap to full-time business owner. Follow these five steps and you'll soon be living your dream life.
